Wiz Kids

Been a bit slack on posts lately because real life has been kicking my ass, but nevermind all that shit lets get down to business!

L-Wiz, the swedes known for the absolute laid back chillstep affair that is 'Girl From Codeine City' has been hitting the buttons hard and producing his ass off! Recently released on All Out Dubstep is Mexter Dorgan and the B side Cape Fear. Both are obviously inspired by television, but thats not the only thing they have in common... They are both absolute bangers.

Mexter Dorgan features a dark and dangerous vocal that proceeds the sub bass and you know its about to get violent when someone says "...I was surrounded by blood".

And Cape Fear has the kind of vocal breakdown at the bridge that a former Hellingly Mental Asylum patient would be proud of.

Massive tunes by L-Wiz, respect.

SPECIAL BONUS FEATURE:

This is L-Wiz latest mix entitled Malmö Mixen vol.2. It's inspired by the long journeys down & up from Stockholm to Malmö, Sweden (5-6 hour drive FUCK THAT). This one only dropped on the 25th so its fresh as a daisy!

The Art Department

This one is a dead cert. Believe me when I say 'Without You' by The Art Department is going to be BIG!
The Art Department are Kenny Glasgow and Jonny White both hailing from Canada with their roots deep set in the underground techno and house scene.
This tune is already being rinsed by the likes of Lee Foss and Jamie Jones in their sets and it features on Jef K's latest Resident Advisor podcast.
I've heard from the grapevine that if this track is heard on a decent sound system, something like the funktion-one... The bass line can actually cause you to bleed from the rectum.
It's rumoured to be out within the next couple of months on Crosstown Rebels alongside its A side track 'Vampire Nightclub Feat. Seth Troxler' and it's more than likely it'll be number 1 on Beatport.
Shouts to Chad from Eknosketch for consulting with me on this one.

Hunger

Mathangi Arulpragasam (or as we know her, feisty M.I.A.) was manufactured by her parents for one reason and one reason only. No, not only to make the best curries in South London but to sound bloody good when marinaded in some tandoori dubstep paste. This shit is hotter than Vindaloo.

Rye Rye Feat. M.I.A. - Bang (Hypnos Remix)

Mind you... Santigold tastes pretty good with a bit of sliced dub chucked in her soul food.

Counter Kulture

This lad is doing it real B I! After originally being a producer and then only recently learning to DJ so he can show off his own productions Kulture has made big strides in the world of Dubstep. He's done a special set for Mary Anne Hobbs and a massive set on GetdarkerTV
Skream has been larging him up no end and rightly so.

He's just put together a mix for BIG UP magazine and has outdone himself once again. The mix features his own button pressing skills aswell as tunes from Skream, Magnetic Man and Omni Trio. Give this bad boy a listen and try not to knock your sister out when your windmilling your arms around the house.

I hope you're pryda yourself

What a beautiful english summer day... 10 Inches of rain and gale force winds worse than the dog after my ole dear buys him that expensive dog food... Bless him though he's not well so say a little prayer for him.

So, Eric Prydz has dominated our charts with efforts such as 'Call On Me' (must see video for perverts) and the remix of Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick In The Wall, Part II' renamed 'Proper Education'. But who knows about his alter ego?

Pryda isn't so much about chart topping generic pop dance and more about feel good progressive house. This is the kind of house that reminds you of those moments at club nights where you large it up with a glowstick in one hand and a gurner in the other whilst telling the sweaty bloke next to you, you love him.

The tracks below include the ever uplifting and chirpy 'Niton' and its b-side 'Vega'. There is also a more focused and solemn effort in 'The End' showing a darker side of life. These tracks are out on Pryda Records and are definitely worth a listen. Head over to Beatport and sort yourself out!

Chillsteppin'

Ez now.
Keeping this one short and sweet as its late. Basically such a phenomenom exists as chilled dubstep (chillstep)... Everyones obviously aware of Burial and what he's done but there are a few other artists out there doing it real B I. Most of the tunes borrow from other genres such as 2 step garage and chillout.
Take a listen and relax, ciao main x

Late - Losing You (Shit 46kbps Rip)

Chromeo - Night By Night (Skreams Sexstep Remix)

Imogen Heap - 2-1 (Murdok Remix) - Prop's to The Smoothest Gooch for this one

Bright Eyes - No One Would Riot For Less (Clueless Dubstep Remix)

Burial - Fostercare

Dose

It's got a bit scrappy in the pub and some geezer's turned around and punched your mate in the face. He's out for the count. He's alright though and he's coming round muttering a couple of words you scarcely believe are being put together at this very point in time: 'what's dubstep?'. Quick get your iPod/CD Player/MiniDisc Player/Walkman/Decks/Anything out and shove some Bar 9 in his lugholes. Right as rain. Why are the B-sides always better?

Bar 9 - Midnight

Bar 9 - Rapture

Bar 9 - Amalgamation

Chasing The Dragon

Not the drug taking technique but just as addictive and twice as dirty.

Chasing Shadows are a duo comprised of Joe Erskine and Luca Gulotta that make upfront dubstep. They're successful in that the songs they remix or produce build you right up to whats going to be an epic drop and then throw you back down into their gully riddums (technical term).
Its the kinda drop that you know is coming but there's literally nothing you can do about it other than get down on the floor like a filthy ratpig.

If you dont know about this tune, where have you been?

Damian Marley - It Was Written (Chasing Shadows Remix)

This track possesses a straight up no nonsense title and a cheeky sample of little wayne.

Ill - Chasing Shadows

This last tune is the future ladies and gents. We first heard this on GetdarkerTV (Big up to them) and bedrooms all over the UK imploded when darkside drew from this one.
Look for this one to be huge at the Outlook & SW4 festivals.

Laid Blak - Red (Chasing Shadows Remix)

Im off to sky+ eastenders, cant get enough of big Phil Mitchell on crack, ciao main x

DISCO DANCE!

Now then, everbody loves a bidda disco. Whether it's old school or new disco there is some cracking fun to be had with a funky tune and some awkward shapes.

First up is an absolute trend setter with a classic trumpet riff from the late 70's when flares and big hair were the norm. If you own a copy of this on 12" you can pretty much do anything and still be considered superfly.

Chicago - Street Player

Fast forward 25 years like im riding in the mother fucking delorean we've got a classic house tune which takes its inspiration from the disco days and puts it through a car wash in Detroit. Heard this tune spun at one of the infamous Faversham garden parties in Leeds and the place went oh bananas, oh bananas, oh bananas.

Harddrive - Deep Inside

At present Lee Foss has been pumping out some quality mixes and has taken a liking to a few disco inspired deep house joints in his set. His button pushing skills arent bad either with this excellent track Grinding.
Mad props to Chad from Eknosketch for linking me up with this tune.

Lee Foss - Grinding

That's all for now bruvs, ciao main x
